Yamaha YZF1000

1997 YZF1000R

A NEW LITER SPORTBIKE ADDS TO YAMAHA'S LINE-UP

Yamaha takes the next step in liter class sportbikes with the introduction of the 1997 YZF 1000. Yamaha's legacy of the big bore sport bike market began in 1987 with its FZR 1000, one of the most reliable and best handling super sports bikes of all time. Stepping up the pace, Yamaha adds this all-new 1000cc sport bike to its family to reclaim the top position. The powerful 1997 YZF 1000R will fill the void left by the departure of Yamaha's popular FZR 1000, and once again make its mark in the sport bike segment.

The 1997 YZF 1000R utilizes an improved version of Yamaha's Genesis engine that boasts improved mid-range power and seamless acceleration to its 11,500 rpm red-line. The liquid cooled, DOHC 5-valve, parallel 4-cylinder 1002cc engine is lighter, more powerful and more responsive than the FZR 1000 engine, due in part to a lighter crankshaft and pistons. New 38mm Mikuni carburetors equipped with throttle position sensors (TPS) help control the EXUP valve in the exhaust pipe, increase engine responsiveness, and increase fuel economy.

When you twist the throttle, the YZF 1000 delivers. The engine spins freely and quickly, producing usable power from as low as 2,000 to as high as 11,500 rpm. The YZF 1000R's power is delivered smoothly through a 5-speed gearbox. The YZF 1000R’s braking system incorporates lightweight, integrated 4-piston calipers with 298x5mm front and 245x6mm rear disc rotors, offering an outstanding level of stopping power.

The suspension includes an all-new rear arm and fully adjustable rear shock that utilize individual control for rebound and compression, conventional type front forks with 48mm inner tube diameters, and front rebound/compression damping and pre-load adjusters. The YZF 1000R's new cartridge-type rebound/compression damping front forks produce a progressive compression action at the bottom of its stroke, and both front and rear adjustments allow riders to tune the suspension for a variety of track or street riding conditions where careful attention was directed at the YZF 1000R's acceleration and handling characteristics.

Yamaha's engineers improved ergonomics as well. For less wind at high speeds, a new windshield, front fender, and cowling which allow for smoother air streams were designed. The rider's comfort is optimized by the relationship between the handlebars and footpegs, as riders find themselves in a comfortable forward lean throughout their fide. The positioning of a newly shaped saddle strike a perfect balance between the bike's intended roles of sport riding and street touring.

The l997 Yamaha YZF 1000R comes in two color combinations: Red/White and Black/Silver.
Suggested Retail Price: $ 9,799 (US)

1997 YZF 750

THE 1997 YZF75OR: IN PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE

Continually demonstrating its prowess in the AMA Superbike National Series, the Yamaha YZF75OR is a most feared competitor. Driven by a 749cc, liquid-cooled, in-line four-cylinder Genesis-inspired engine, the YZF75OR offers a well-balanced package of reliable power and precision handling on the street as well as the racetrack.

The YZF75OR's double overhead cam, five-valve-per-cylinder set-up incorporates Yamaha's renowned Genesis design, which cants the engine forward for optimal weight distribution and a more efficient intake track. Its pair of 38mm Mikuni downdraft carburetors and exclusive EXUP (Exhaust Ultimate Powervalve) exhaust system, which monitors engine speed and adjusts exhaust gas volume and pressure accordingly, provide crisp throttle response throughout the RPM range.

Power is managed by a chain-driven final drive and a six-speed transmission. For maximum cooling efficiency, the 75OR utilizes a large-capacity curved radiator with dual cooling fans and a fairing that directs the flow of air through the radiator.

The 75OR's ultra light aluminum Deltabox chassis and massive Grand Prix-style aluminum swingarm delivers quick, precise handling and outstanding rigidity. Stopping is made easier by a pair of 320mm front discs with six-piston calipers, backed by a twin piston rear caliper with a 245mm disc.

The 1997 Yamaha YZF75OR will be available in Red/White.

1997 YZF 600

YAMAHA INTRODUCES ALL-NEW YZF 600R FOR 1997

Yamaha has again raised the performance bar in the sport bike category with the introduction of its all-new 1997 YZ F600R. The YZF600R enjoys the benefits of a more responsive powerplant, a more efficient chassis design, improved rider ergonomics, and more powerful brakes.

The 600R is powered by a 599cc, liquid cooled in-line four cylinder DOHC 16-valve Genesis design engine, which utilizes a new forged piston that decreases weight, increases strength, and improves throttle response. The 600R also upgrades to 36mm Keihin carburetors -- 2mm larger than before -- with a throttle position sensor (TPS) that compares engine rpm with throttle opening and manages optimal ignition advance. To handle the YZF 600R's newly-added power, Yamaha improved the clutch friction plate and spring material, and introduced a nine-core water-cooled oil cooler with increased diameter to handle increased oil temperature.

yzf600

Building upon its proven Deltabox frame, Yamaha developed an all-new, lighter and more compact rear sub-frame that offers a slightly increased seat height and a new passenger seating position. The YZF 600R's new cartridge-type rebound/compression damping front forks produce a more progressive compression action at the bottom of its stroke, and both front and rear adjustments allow riders to tune the suspension for a variety of track or street riding conditions.

To compliment its race-proven suspension, the YZF 600R's comes equipped with 120/60 ZRI7 front and 160/60 ZRI7 rear tires. The combination yields impressive conering ability and an incredibly nimble machine.

New Sumitomo 4-piston bridge-pipe integrated front calipers offer less and improved stiffness (1-6% increase) over last year's model. A re-shaped and thicker 11.7" brake rotor and disc bracket are more durable and offer riders increased braking responsiveness and a re-assuring level of braking performance.

Several ergonomic changes which will improve rider comfort include; a re-shaped fuel tank for enhanced knee-grip, a new one-piece seat and added grab-bar for a passenger, a new uni-cone screen-type fairing for improved aerodynamic performance, and a relocated U-lock storage for increased space.

Other YZF 600R improvements include; a new air cleaner assembly structure for greater power at high speed, the addition of a joint pipe to the exhaust pipe and a newly designed tail piece for the muffler for improved torque at bottom and mid-speed range and an integrated handlebar/choke switch. The twin headlight has been replaced by a single-bulb, multi-reflector resin lens headlamp.

Three color combinations will be available for the 1997 YZF 600R: Red/White and Black/Silver. The YZF 600R is also available in Team Yamaha Blue/White, which is the official color scheme of the Yamaha Factory Racing Team.
Suggested Retail Price: $ 7,399 (US)
