1998 Polaris Utility Snowmobiles
Polaris utility snowmobiles meet and exceed their owners' expectations. As required, they're dependable, reliable, powerful, durable, tough, maneuverable, and able to carry a load. Whether they're hauling emergency equipment, hauling hay, hauling fishing gear, or hustling down the trail on a recreational ride, the Indy WideTrak LX and lndy Tran Sport are built to last.
Both are built on the Standard Indy chassis and both use the famed Polaris IFS front suspension with hydraulic shocks to deliver 7.25 inches of front-end travel. Both have slide rail rear suspensions with hydraulic shocks, and the Tran Sport has 7 inches of rear-end travel compared to 9 inches for the WideTrak LX.
Standard features found on both models include handwarmers and a thumbwarmer, speedometer with tripmeter, two-up seat with backrest, storage rack, and tow hitch. Their engines and other distinct features are covered below.
lndy WideTrak LX
Dependable power for the finest
utility sled on the market is served up by the famed Polaris
488cc liquid-cooled twin with a
pair of 34mm carburetors.
A high windshield offers maximum protection against wind and blowing snow, and the split-level two-up seat lifts open to provide a roomy underseat storage area. Other standard features on the Indy WideTrak LX include: electric start, high, low, and reverse in an improved transmission, speedometer (with tripmeter) and tachometer, mechanical disc brake, 11-gallon gas tank, and E-Z Steer ski carbides. The 20x156-inch Lightning track with 1-inch lugs has the largest footprint of any Polaris.
The 98 WideTrak LX has a more-durable drive chain and an improved P-85 drive clutch.
lndy Trans Sport
The
Tran Sport will carve its way to practically any snowy
destination on a 15x141 -inch Wiper track with 1.125-inch lugs.
The Tran Sport's power comes from the proven Polaris 432cc
fan-cooled piston-port twin with a pair of 34mm carburetors. The
Tran Sport has a hydraulic disc brake, reverse gear, and a 11.8
gallon gas tank.
Its backrest is adjustable, so it can be slid forward to add to serve a solo rider or moved back for two-up riding. A passenger will appreciate the backrest as well as the secure handgrips and passenger footrests, and the high windshield deflects cold wind and snow.
