Trail Sleds
Polaris defines "trail luxury" by creating snowmobiles that use plush and sophisticated suspensions, the innovative EDGE chassis, and impressive power from engines that are right at home in performance-class sleds.

For 2002, Polaris has enhanced the features of the Indy 700, 600, and 500 Classics and introduced the all-new, fan-cooled Indy 550 Classic. The Indy 700 Classic joins the Indy 600 Classic in using the industry-leading M-10® rear suspension, and for 2002, both models have the power-boosting Variable Exhaust System (VES). The Indy 500 Classic and Indy 550 Classic both have the EDGE chassis and suspensions, and like every sled in this segment, they offer riders numerous comfort and convenience features.

INDY 700 CLASSIC
The name is the same for 2002, but nearly everything else about the Indy 700 Classic including the chassis, power, ride, comfort, and convenience-has been improved significantly.

For starters, the 700 Classic now utilizes the award-winning EDGE chassis with ergonomics and a ride-enhancing design that provide riders with great comfort even on long rides on rough trails. Also new for 2002 are the EDGE IFS, which provides the 700 Classic with increased suspension travel, and the plush-riding M-10® rear suspension, which has 14" of chatter bump-absorbing travel.

This sensational ride package is complemented by the liquid-cooled 700 domestic twin, which for 2002 has the Variable Exhaust System (VES) to boost power throughout the powerband and improve fuel economy at trail speeds by approximately 20%.

The Indy 700 Classic has all of this plus the sport's finest package of rider comfort and convenience features, including reverse and electric start.

The EDGE chassis enhances rider comfort with design elements such as its higher handlebars and reduced footrest angle, and it straddles the greatest comfort feature of all, the M-10® rear suspension. This is an innovative, biased-coupled suspension whose unique sliding coupler block allows the front and rear torque arms to "communicate" with each other as they encounter bumps. By reacting simultaneously to impact from bumps, they reduce the secondary impacts that can punish a rider after a suspension absorbs the primary impact. Upon impact with a bump, the Advanced Ride Control (ARC) geometry transmits energy from the springs' rebound to the unweighted chassis rather than to the rider.

This suspension design allows for softer overall ride calibration, which enhances rider comfort. A lightweight yet extremely durable rear suspension, the M-10© is comprised of premium components, including front and rear Fox© internal floating piston (IFP) gas shocks.

Up front, the EDGE IFS provides smooth handling with its compression-adjustable Indy Select shocks, torsion bar, Controlled Roll center (CRC) steering, aluminum steering arms, 42.5" ski stance, composite skis, and 10" of travel.

The already-potent liquid-cooled 700 domestic twin is considerably more powerful for 2002 with the addition of the VES. With VES, this engine package produces an increase of approximately 8 hp in top-end power and additional power throughout the power band. Fuel economy has improved approximately 20% at trail speeds, so riders will enjoy extended riding range from the 11.8-gallon (U.S.) fuel tank.

This 700cc case reed-inducted engine has dual rack-style TM40(mm) flatslide carburetors with an easy to operate "flipper" throttle and a Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) with a 3dimensional timing map for optimized fuel delivery. The engine also has a Water Temperature Sensor (WTS) for failsafe operation, a Regular/Premium fuel selector switch (with an indicator light in the tachometer), digital ignition, and a thermostat and bypass system.

The impressive power is complemented by the consistently reliable braking of the liquid cooled Polaris high-performance disc brake.

Electric start is standard, as are push-pull reverse, mirrors featuring a new design (not factory installed), electric fuel gauge, easy-to-read 5"-diameter tachometer and speedometer, and a left-hand control block with switches for the headlights and adjustable hand and thumbwarmers.

The oil reservoir capacity has been increased to 4 quarts (U.S.), and the EDGE seat has integrated side panels and a top panel of STX vinyl that's not as slippery as traditional seat vinyl.

INDY 600 CLASSIC
The Indy 600 Classic already had a premiere suspension package with a long-travel EDGE IFS front end and the M-10® rear suspension. For 2002, Indy 600 Classic riders will experience a great ride and considerably more power than ever before as this trail luxury sled's liquid-cooled 600cc domestic engine now has the Variable Exhaust System (VES).

The addition of the VES to the 600 twin results in an approximate horsepower increase of 6% over the previous engine package-and a weight reduction of 9 pounds. The VES also enhances fuel economy substantially so riders can enjoy extended range from the 11.8-gallon (U.S.) fuel tank.

Snow Goer magazine said of this engine package, "The Polaris twin is the champion in its class," and the Indy 600 Classic was named Best of Class by SNOWMOBILE magazine before its engine got the VES!

The new VES-equipped engine has dual Mikuni TM38(mm) flatslide carburetors and digital CDI with a Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). This responsive powerplant also has a thermostat and bypass system, fuel selector switch (with an indicator light in the tachometer), Water Temperature Sensor (WTS) for failsafe running, and its new oil pump reduces oil consumption.

The power is complemented by the consistently reliable and predictable liquid-cooled Polaris high-performance disc brake with an integrated parking brake, sight gauge master cylinder, and new braided steel brake line.
Riders and magazine editors alike love this sled's M-10® suspension. SNOWMOBILE magazine editors said, "The combination of the EDGE chassis and the M-10® suspension make for a phenomenally sweet ride," and American Snowmobiler magazine said that with the M10®, "the Indy 600 Classic becomes an ultimate sports sled."

The innovative, biased-coupled M-10® rear suspension has a unique sliding coupler block that allows the front and rear torque arms to "communicate" with each other as they encounter bumps. They react simultaneously to initial impacts and reduce the secondary impacts that are often transmitted to the rider by a conventional suspension. Upon impact with a bump, the M-10® Advanced Ride Control (ARC) geometry transmits energy from the springs' rebound to the unweighted chassis rather than to the rider.

The M-10® suspension design permits softer overall ride calibration, resulting in increased travel and enhanced rider comfort. Extremely lightweight and durable, the M10® is comprised of premium components. The front and rear track shocks are Foxe internal floating piston (IFP) gas shocks, and suspension travel is 14".

The EDGE IFS has compression-adjustable Indy Select shocks, aluminum steering arms, a torsion bar, and 10" of travel. Composite skis are standard, as is the 42.5" ski stance and Controlled Roll Center (CRC) steering.

Electric start, push-pull reverse, speedometer, tachometer, and electric fuel gauge are standard, and the mirrors (not factory installed) feature a stylish new design. The EDGE seat has integrated side panels and an STX top panel, and the Sonic Blue EDGE hood with new Classic graphics has hood closures to prevent snow ingestion. Switches that control the adjustable hand and thumbwarmers and dual-beam headlights are located in the left-hand control block, and the mid-height flared windshield provides a rider with outstanding protection.

INDY 500 CLASSIC
The Indy 500 Classic has earned a reputation as a premium trail luxury snowmobile that offers a plush ride, outstanding power, and a full complement of convenience features. For 2002, the 500 Classic ride experience gets even better as this popular sled utilizes the award winning EDGE chassis.

For Indy 500 Classic riders, the primary benefits of the EDGE chassis are an even smoother ride than before and ergonomics that enhance rider comfort.

The EDGE chassis utilizes premium suspensions such as the EDGE IFS, which provides 10" of travel and has Controlled Roll Center (CRC) steering, aluminum steering arms, a 42.5" ski stance, new saddle-less composite skis, and a torsion bar.
