Las Vegas, NV--- American Honda announced today its intention to enter the personal watercraft market with the world's first mass-produced four-stroke powered machines. Honda told motorcycle and ATV dealers assembled here that the company is entering this market to expand its participation in the powersports arena.

Motorcycle Division Vice President Ray Blank said, " Our watercraft will appeal to the family oriented customer, combining Honda's legendary performance, quality, and reliability. And because it's a four-stoke, it's a responsible answer to environmental issues."

Honda, the world's leader in four-stroke technology, will set new industry standards for quiet, clean-running operation. Honda personal watercraft will meet the 2006 emission standards set forth by the EPA.

Blank noted, "With personal watercraft, we're entering a market that has seen a lot of ups and downs, a certain amount of volatility. As a leader in the promotion of both responsible use and the safe operation of our products, Honda will be a strong advocate for the proper operation of watercraft."

Honda's personal watercraft will be designed and manufactured exclusively by Honda. Production will occur in the U.S., and the first model will be announced in the fall of 2001. Information about American Honda's sales, marketing, and distribution strategy will be announced after the first of the year.
