1997 Yamaha Virago line retains ownership of the road When it comes to choosing the
fight cruiser, the Yamaha Virago 1100, 1100SP, 750, 535, 535SP or 250 are a combination of
street savvy and advanced technology for all classifications of riders.
The patriarchs of the Virago family, the 1100 and the 1100SP remain the standard bearers for VTwin cruisers. The 1100s combine a comfortable cruise and distinctive styling while never sacrificing the power that has become the Virago's hallmark.
The Virago 1100 and 1100SP feature a 1063 cc air-cooled V-Twin engine with the cylinders angled at 75 degrees, to accommodate the Virago's legendary low-vibration rate and dual 40mm Mikuni carburetors. The telescopic front forks and twin rear shocks allow for enough travel to offer a comfortable fide through the smooth five speed transmission.
Stopping is not a problem with Virago's dual-front and rear drum brakes. The 1100s also feature shaft drive for smoother operation and lower maintenance, and a transistor controlled ignition, which adjusts engine timing for peak performance. The 1100s have a 4.4 gallon fuel tank to provide for a long uninterrupted ride.
The Virago 1100SP stands out with special features like a custom seat, chrome visor over the 60 watt halogen headlamp, a three dimensional Virago logo on the fuel tank and a fully buffed chrome cover over the rear shocks.
The Virago 1100SP is available at Yamaha dealers nationwide and can be purchased in
Special Edition Black. The Virago 1100 will be available nationwide in August and sports a
crisp Red/White or Blue/White color scheme.

The Virago 750 is the class leader among 750cc engine powered cruisers. The 750 is powered by a 749cc air-cooled 75-degree V-Twin engine with dual 40mm Mikuni carburetors, a five speed transmission and shaft drive for powerful acceleration and low maintenance. A low slung frame, pulled back handlebars, forward mounted footpegs and a plush saddle offer the rider a relaxed, comfortable ride.
The stylish long front forks and twin rear shocks offer a smooth ride. Dual front disc and rear drum brakes make stopping as fluid as starting. The 750, like the 1100s, also a transistor controlled ignition, which adjusts engine timing for peak performance. The 750 also sports a 3.8 gallon fuel tank to allow for a long and adventurous ride.

For the rider looking to step up to a mid-sized cruiser and gain the feel of a high-powered cruising machine, the answer is the Virago 535 and 535SP. The smaller sized 535 features a 535cc air cooled 70 degree V-Twin engine with dual 34mm Mikuni carburetors, five speed transmission and shaft drive. Combine these features with a low seat height and light weight and it adds up to the perfect mid-sized cruiser.
The Virago 535s feature low-slung frames, stylish chromed looks and a distinct bass exhaust note. The plush, raked out front forks, forward mounted footpegs and the low seat put the rider in classic cruising position. Other features include a low-maintenance shaft drive, worry-free electronic ignition and dual-piston front brakes for pinpoint stopping. For that pure cruiser look, the Virago 535s have real chrome wire-spoke wheels, dual bobbed exhaust and a fat rear tire.
