Yamaha Introduces SRX Series Of Lightweight Triple Triples.
For
1998, Yamaha is premiering three all new snowmobiles with
three-cylinder, triple piped engines. They're powerful, they're
light in weight, they're painted Team Yamaha Blue, and they're
called SRX.
The all-new SRX
700, SRX 600 and Mountain SRX 700 are engineered to give top
performance trail riders and mountain riders the highest
technology ever put into a snowmobile, with engines that pump out
more horsepower than any sled in their class.
A TOTALLY DIFFERENT ANIMAL
Like other triple triples, the new 600 and 700 cc engines featured in the SRX sleds breathe in through three carbs and out through three exhaust pipes. But they're a totally different animal than anything else on the snow.
First, these are all-new powerplants. Compact, strong and lightweight, they feature new crankcases, crankshafts, cylinders, pistons and heads. The engines are tucked low and deep in their lightweight yet extremely rigid ProAction system chassis, providing a low center of gravity.
ELECTRONIC POWER VALVES
Triple exhaust pipes, tuned to maximize performance are at the top of the "what's new" list in all three SRX models. Right behind the pipes is the trickest of Yamaha's high-tech features for 1998: the Yamaha power valve system.
Unlike competitive valve designs activated by exhaust pressure or cylinder pressure, the Yamaha system is electronically controlled, using technology from gran prix motorcycle racing. A computer monitors engine RPM, feeding the information to a servo motor that adjusts the valves for optimum exhaust timing and maximum horsepower across the entire powerband. The valves are self-cleaning, preventing carbon buildup and valve sticking problems sometimes experienced with competitive systems.
In addition to the computerized valves, all three SRX models give top performance riders a new, uniquely engineered air management system designed to maximize performance. It includes 1) a new aerodynamic hood and belly pan design, 2) ducts that provide cool, fresh air to the carburetor intake, brake, mufflers, crankcase and clutch, and 3) an advanced air flow design within the crankcase that optimizes scavenging efficiency and horsepower.
SRX MEANS PREMIUM HANDLING
The SRX 700, SRX 600 and Mountain SRX 700 all use the Yamaha ProAction System chassis. The combination of a lightweight, yet extremely rigid all-aluminum frame with advanced front and rear suspensions delivers premium handling and unmatched riding confidence.
The ProAction System chassis is designed to deliver excellent handling, both because of its light weight and its exceptional strength. The key chassis component is the industry-exclusive, one-piece, die-cast aluminum bulkhead subframe, helping form a frame with up to twice the torsional rigidity of competitive, welded structures. The result is a top performance snowmobile that delivers not only high horsepower but exceptional, premium handling.
SRX 700 & SRX 600
The SRX 700 and
SRX 600 feature the ProAction Plus SX rear suspension, set up
specifically for
top-performance trail riders. It has high-quality,
rebuildable, aluminum-body KYB gas shocks with adjustable spring
preload and 8 inches of travel. The result of all this
engineering is exceptional handling and great ride quality.
A three-position
rear shock mount is easily adjustable to change both shock
damping and spring rate. Bearings and bushings are placed at key
pivot points, and seven zerks feed 12 grease points, reducing
friction for quick and efficient action.
And, unlike some shock
designs, the premium shocks on the ProAction Plus SX system do
not require rebuilding at 500 mile intervals.
KYB aluminum-body,
high-pressure gas shocks with adjustable spring preload are also
standard equipment on the advanced independent front suspension
of the SRX 700 and SRX 600.
MOUNTAIN SRX 700 (Mountain Sled Pages)
Yamaha has pulled out all the stops for its new triple triple mountain sled. The Mountain SRX 700 features all-plastic skis for light weight and superior sidehilling. It also has a 136-inch Mountain Master Track with 1.5-inch high profile for aggressive performance in deep powder, and a two-position rear suspension bracket that allows greater chassis clearance for riding in extreme snow depths.
As for the long-travel rear suspension, this mountain machine features the ProAction Plus XS. It has 11.5 inches of true travel, premium quality gas shocks, plus bearings and bushings at key pivot points for outstanding efficiency and comfort.
TRIPLE TRIPLE & TRIPLE WARRANTY
In addition to triple cylinders, triple carbs and triple pipes, all three SRX sleds feature a triple warranty: Yamaha's industry exclusive 3-year warranty that includes I year of factory coverage plus 2 years of Yamaha Extended Service.
