New twin-spar frame
More power, more revs
Six-piston brakes, Radials, cast wheels
THE EXCITING NEW SUZUKI TL 1000R!
Suzuki raises the bar again even higher with this new performance V-twin model.
All the visceral appeal and performance features that attract so many riders to V-twins
have been refined into a fully faired, race-ready package - the TL1000R. Like the TL1000S,
Suzuki has created a motorcycle that combines all the visceral appeal of a traditional
large-displacement V-twin with the latest performance technology. Better handling. Rider
comfort. Long-term reliability. Easier serviceability. Extensive dealer support. And a
reasonable price. To a V-twin lover, the new Suzuki TL1000R is the ultimate in V-twin
performance.
Suzuki engineers based the engine around the awesome TL1000S 90 degree V-twin, power plant
and tuned it for even more power and torque. New features such as forged pistons, lighter
weight rods, twin radiators, revised airbox and exhaust system, larger clutch, remapped
fuel injection system and many other refinements were added for increased performance and
durability.
The TL1000R has an equally race-ready chassis centering around an all new short wheelbase
aluminum spar-type frame. The frame is combined with a bridge-type swingarm, fully adjust
able inverted forks, and Suzuki's unique rotary damper rear suspension for quick, precise
handling. Superior braking performance is provided by 320mm front disc brakes with new
6-piston calipers and wide radial tires. The whole package is wrapped in an aerodynamic
fairing designed for a low drag coefficient.
A full engine and chassis race kit will be made available - price and availability to be
announced.

THE SUZUKI 1998 TL1000S: A V-TWIN
LOVER'S DREAM COME TRUE
For some people, there's nothing like the loping gait, instant throttle response
and rush of acceleration of a booming
V-twin
motorcycle. It can be so seductive that some enthusiasts are willing to sacrifice comfort,
reliability and big dollars to enjoy the wide powerband and en hanced traction that a big
V-twin provides. But Suzuki has created a motorcycle that com bines all the visceral
appeal of a traditional large-displacement V-twin with the latest perfor mance technology.
Better handling. Rider comfort. Long-term reliability. Easier serviceability. Extensive
dealer support. And a reasonable price. To a V-twin lover, the Suzuki TL1000S is a dream
come true.
With two cylinders positioned 90-degrees apart, downdraft cylinder heads with four valves
per cylinder, double overhead cams and liquid cooling, the big bore, short stroke layout
engine was designed to be narrower, shorter and lighter than traditional V-twin motors.
Suzuki Ram Air Direct (SRAD) induction, two-stage electronic fuel injection and a digital
engine manage ment system provide smooth throttle response.
A built-in back-torque limiter system allows the clutch to handle the TL1000S' formidable
power with smaller-diameter plates in a more compact clutch assembly. An automatic decom
pression system makes it easier to turn over the engine, allowing the starter motor and
battery to be smaller and lighter, as well.
But the innovations don't stop there. The TL1000S also features the first mass-produced
aluminum truss frame, which offers outstanding torsional rigidity, and a rotary damper
rear suspension system which utilizes a "rotary" damper unit mounted separately
from the shock spring, each with their own linkage system.
With all this technology and performance its no wonder that the TL1000S was co winner of
Motorcyclist magazine's 1997 Bike of the Year award, and winner of Best Superbike in Cycle
World magazine's Ten Best awards for 1997.
