Softail Deuce Launches H-D Into Next Millennium

MILWAUKEE…Harley-Davidson’s custom cruisers have always been on the cutting edge of cruiser styling. And the new FXSTD Softail Deuce pushes the edge to new limits, with a host of stylish details designed to set it apart from the crowd. The Softail Deuce’s uniquely designed features include a stacked shotgun exhaust, new fenders and fully chromed front forks. The Deuce becomes the first Harley-Davidson to incorporate a new stretched fuel tank with an integrated chrome instrument panel. Zinc die-cast directionals with chrome-plated components, a newly styled coil cover and a new flush taillight add to the look of the new Deuce. A 17" rear wheel with wide tire complete the radical look from the rear. As with all 2000 Softail Models, the Deuce is powered by the new Twin Cam 88B engine with twin, counter-rotating balancers. While maintaining the classic, tightly-packaged look of a rigid-mounted motor, the counter balancers cancel primary engine vibration for improved rideability.

The design and development of a new frame to accommodate the Twin Cam 88B engine afforded Harley-Davidson engineers the opportunity to completely modernize the Deuce, along with all 2000 Softails. The new chassis is said to feature a 34% improvement in overall stiffness and incorporates a steering head lock and new rear suspension bushings for improved suspension action. (we've spoken to some who have ridden with the new chassis and they report the difference in feel is night-and-day) The side stand has been relocated to be easier to reach. In addition to the styling, engine and chassis improvements, the Deuce will accommodate the new brake system that debuted on the Softail, Sportster, Touring and Dyna families. The brake system includes new four-piston fixed calipers, new brake pad material and newly designed uniform expanding rotors. Softails also get a new rear brake master cylinder for improved styling. The Softail Deuce is available in Vivid Black, Aztec Orange Pearl and exciting new 2000 colors: Sinister Blue Pearl, Diamond Ice Pearl, Luxury Rich Red, Concord Purple, Two-Tone Sinister Blue /Diamond Ice, Two-Tone Aztec Orange /Diamond Ice and Two-Tone Luxury Rich Red/Vivid Black.
