Engine

Liquid-cooled 249cc two-stroke engine features newly modified port, piston, combustion and expansion chamber designs that realize a boost in maximum power output and easier-to-use response throughout a wide powerband.

New flat-top piston combines with revised combustion chamber shape for increased power and sharper response.

New map-type digital electronic ignition system monitors engine speed to provide optimal timing for faster, stronger response and enhanced control during strong acceleration.

New power jet control (PJC) carburetor developed with feedback from Team Honda. Features solenoid-controlled auxiliary main jet that opens at low rpms for stronger, more linear response and improved traction out of the corners.

New steel water pump gear replaces resin unit for increased long-term reliability.

New large-volume radiator replaces dual units of previous model for 150 percent increase in cooling capacity.

Chassis/Suspension

First-ever aluminum twin-spar frame in motocross features dual-box-section twin spars, box-section downtubes and compact forged pivot plates for balance of light weight and high rigidity. Nearly 4 pounds lighter than the previous model's steel frame.

Wall thicknesses of main frame and swingarm spars spot-tuned for optimal balance of light weight and torsional rigidity. Increased lateral and torsional rigidity permits easier, more precise cornering and controlled straight-line performance.

Front fork slider tube diameter increased from 46 to 47mm for increased rigidity and excellent control. All-new dual-chamber cartridge design separates air and oil with a rubber membrane to eliminate aeration.

Inner surfaces of front fork outer tube and rear damper case are molybdenum coated for low friction.

Rugged Delta-Link Pro-Link rear suspension features new, 500-gram-lighter Honda original tapered box-section aluminum swingarm offering increased ground clearance.

New rear axle shaft features integrated collars for easier maintenance.

Compact dual-piston caliper front disc brake with 240mm drilled rotor and sintered metal pads. Single-piston caliper rear disc brake features lower positioned caliper and thinner (down from 4.5 to 4mm), larger-diameter (up from 220 to 240mm) rotor for smoother response.

New roomier riding position comes from relocated seat, tank, handlebar and footpegs. Flush-mounted side-panels and radiator shrouds make it easier for rider to change position.

Additional Features

New frame design permits easier carburetor and engine maintenance because of the open perimeter-style configuration.

New frame design also permits main volume of fuel tank to be positioned lower and farther back for further contribution to mass centralization.

Shrouds redesigned for flush-surface integration with tank and seat and maximized air flow to one-piece radiator for optimal cooling efficiency.

New Team Honda red, white and black colors with fluorescent yellow Honda wing mark.

Fork guards and front disc brake cover changed from red to white.
