A semi-independent rear axle also helps deliver flawless maneuverability and handling. When paired with a 50-inch wheelbase, great ground clearance, a low center of gravity, full floorboards, and a protective full skidplate these ATVs have all the right stuff.
The new models feature single-lever Wilwood hydraulic disc brakes for awesome stopping power. And for 1998, a new, easy to engage parking lock on the master cylinder comes standard. A foot-operated manual mechanical disc brake on the rear axle is also standard.

Arctic Cat Inc. has expanded its line of all-terrain vehicles to include two new workhorses in smaller sizes. The new Arctic Cat 300 4x4 and Arctic Cat 300 2x4 are descendants of the proven Arctic Cat 454 4x4 and 2x4.
The Arctic Cat 300 4x4 and 2x4 feature 280cc single cylinder, air/oil-cooled engines fed via a single constant velocity 31 mm carburetor. The smooth 5-speed auto-clutch transmission features reverse and high-low range. The 4x4 also sports super-low gear and a two or four-wheel drive by easily pushing or pulling a lever that activates the front differential.
The new 300s were built with the same principles as the big-brother 454s, and feature a fully independent double A-arm front and rear suspension. Both offer 6.5 inches of stump-climbing, rockdodging travel. This all-new, all-independent design keeps the wheels on the ground through even the most intense rough trail testing. And a 50-inch wheelbase makes for a smooth ride. Full-length plastic skidplates provide high-impact coverage on the underside of the ATV chassis, and full floorboards with footpegs give added comfort and control.
A rough trail or challenging work is no problem for this pair of ATV high-breds. The Arctic Cat 300 4x4 and 2x4 have tight turning radiuses and Wilwood hydraulic disc brakes for added stopping power. This single lever, stop-on-a-dime, feature also sports a new parking brake on the master cylinder. A foot operated, manual mechanical disc brake on the rear axle comes standard on all Arctic Cat ATVs in '98.
Instrumentation on the '300s includes a neutral/engaged light and an overheat light. The ATVs have electric start with manual override and manual decompression. Front and rear racks have plenty of hauling power, with a 75 lb. front capacity and 100 lb. rear capacity. Dual headlights on both 300s are matched with a rear brake/tail light, and a rear-mounted DC outlet that is fed via a 220-watt alternator for remote power. A tow hitch is also standard on both models.
The 300s also feature such rider-friendly comforts as a plush, padded seat and handlebars that make maneuvering easy. The ATVs have a 4.25 gallon fuel tank to take riders a long distance before having to stop to refuel.
The 4x4 has a dry weight of 585 lbs, and the 2x4 has a dry weight off 550 lbs.
